Our new home at MADE Bush Terminal

MADE Bush Terminal, located on Brooklyn’s historic waterfront in Sunset Park

Joining a Community of Sustainable, Small Manufacturers in Brooklyn

We can’t be more pleased to share that MushLume Lighting has officially moved into a new home at MADE Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. After years of growing our company — and quite literally growing our products — we’ve been seeking a space that could hold not only our production needs, but our bigger vision: a future where design, manufacturing, and ecological responsibility are not separate conversations, but one shared practice. MADE, short for Manufacturers, Artisans, Designers, and Entrepreneurs, feels like that future taking shape in real time.

We are thrilled to be joining the unique community at MADE Bush Terminal and to be expanding our operations within a larger footprint. The new space will allow us to scale production, hold greater inventory volumes, and streamline our R&D efforts, while also providing a showroom space against an iconic waterfront backdrop with views of lower Manhattan. Maintaining a Brooklyn-based location for our sustainable, biofabrication business has always been our goal and we couldn’t imagine a better fit than the ecosystem that the Economic Development Corp. has been fostering at MADE.

MADE Bush Terminal was created to support and strengthen New York City’s creative manufacturing ecosystem, bringing together businesses that are building tangible, meaningful products right here in the city. Run by NYCEDC, New York City Economic Development Corporation, the campus is intentionally fostering a renewed era of Brooklyn-based design and manufacturing, curating a community of makers working across disciplines.

For MushLume, it’s energizing to be surrounded by other studios and companies who are rooted in craft, innovation, and local production — people who understand what it means to make with intention, and who treat manufacturing as a creative act.

Grounded in Values, Built for the Future

At MushLume, our ethos has always centered on material honesty, circularity, and impact. We believe the things we bring into our homes should reflect care — for people, for process, for the planet. Joining MADE Bush Terminal feels like an extension of that belief: a place where manufacturing isn’t outsourced or hidden, but celebrated as part of culture, community, and regeneration. We’re honored to contribute to a growing network of Brooklyn makers, and grateful to be building our next chapter in a space that’s aligned with our values — grounded, collaborative, and deeply future-facing.

Handcrafting a lampshade using living mycelium and cabron-sequestering hemp

In a time when so many products are manufactured overseas — often through opaque supply chains that prioritize speed and cost over environmental responsibility and ethical labor — choosing locally handcrafted goods becomes a meaningful act of care. When you purchase a product made by a real maker in your own city, you’re not just buying an object; you’re supporting dignified work, transparency, and a production process that’s accountable to people and place. Local handcraft restores something that has been quietly eroded by mass production: connection. Knowing who made your lamp, how it was crafted, and what values shaped it creates a deeper relationship with the objects we live alongside every day — turning our interior goods from disposable décor into lasting pieces that hold story, intention, and human touch.

More Than Lighting: A New Chapter of Mycelium-Centered Offerings

With this move, MushLume is entering an exciting new chapter of growth — one that expands not only our space, but what’s possible. While we will continue crafting our signature mycelium-grown lighting and acoustic solutions, this next phase allows us to go further: opening the door to a broader offering of mycelium-centered services. From early-stage material exploration and prototyping to collaborative design development and project support, we’re building the capacity to share our process in new ways and help others integrate mycelium into their own interiors and ideas. This expansion reflects what we’ve always believed — that mycelium is more than a living material; it’s a steward for regenerative design — and we’re energized to grow alongside a wider community ready to imagine what biomaterials can become.
