An Ode to Nature
2024 Collection
An Ode to Nature is a biodesigner’s poetic exploration in biofabrication, co-creating biophilic forms with mycelium in an effort to honor the great source of all life on this planet. By examining both naturally occuring forms and those crafted with human influence, we can begin to see a symbiotic future where cooperation is key to not only survival, but to experience the harmonious reconnection when humans remember that we too, are Nature.

The Terrace Collection
Humans have been sculpting the Earth’s surface since our existence began, shaping the land and shifting the water. We cut into mountains, chistling sloped planes to sustain crops that would, in turn, sustain us. Each graduating terrace step made possible by humans and Nature, together. Together finding a balance with the finite and the necessity. Together managing water and erosion for the preservation of both parties. The Terrace Sconces are both an homage to an age-old symbiosis, but also serve as a metaphor for the journey inward and our outward expression. Each step creates an imprint within ourselves and upon the world.
The MushLume Terrace Sconces come in two opposing forms, Journey Inward, where the lampshade takes on the imprint of the natural terrace steps, inversely descending into the light, and Expand Out, a physical projection of ascending tiers to reach the top of the mountain. Both options are available in two sizes (small and large) and Expand Out can be used as a ceiling flush mount as well as a portable table lamp.

Radiate Sconce
“The secret of creation lies in the wave.” - Walter Russell
From the motion of quantum particles to the mighty movement of the oceans, waves play a vital role in our Universe. Waves radiate out from a source, creating crests and troughs as they ripple out through space and time. Waves carry sound, light and matter, ultimately creating the flow of life on our planet. The Radiate Sconce embodies the concept of a wave radiating out from its source. The amplitude of the wave grown from mycelium and hemp creates visible rings of light projecting out from an amber-lit core.
Bubble Table Lamp
A phenomenon often taken for granted in Nature is the role of a globule of a gas substance in a liquid, or better known as a bubble. Bubbles are key to many important functions in nature, carrying carbon dioxide from land to our oceans, creating barriers for chemical and physical reactions to take place, the ability to clean with soap and even the possibility that bubbles played an integral role in the origin of life, distributing precursor molecules.
Just as bubbles envelop and hold space, the Bubble Table Lamp captures a playful moment when varying sizes of bubbles have collided and join as one, supporting each other in a unique configuration that will never be duplicated in the same way. Though we can never experience that moment again, we are left with the memory, time encapsulated in form.
Ray Sconce
Worshiped throughout history, the Sun is the ultimate giver of life. Without it, life on our planet wouldn’t exist. The rays of energy that emit from this star burning over 93 million miles away, reach Earth in the form of light and heat, warming our planet and allowing for photosynthesis. The Ray Sconce honors the Sun with its visual representation of the rays of light projecting from source. The symmetrical cutouts allow light to pass through the lampshade grown from mycelium and hemp and project onto the wall surface behind, creating a dramatic glowing array of light.

Chunky & Tall Boy Table Lamps
Strengthening the human-Nature connection is essential as we move towards a more conscious way of living. The more we see ourselves in Nature, the greater the communion between species or what can often feel like distant worlds. It is in our commonalities that we can better understand each other and the feelings of “other” may slowly dissipate. Part person, part mushroom, the Tall Boy and Chunky Table Lamps embody the similarities of human and fungi forms. The interplay between materials that are manmade and those that are biofabricated (grown from living mycelium) demonstrate that when we collaborate, we can not only create new sustainable solutions, but inspire new forms of creation.
The Tall Boy & Chunky Table Lamps transform from a mushroom shape to more of a human form by selecting either a sphere or oval shaped Tala LED dimmable light bulb. Materials used: mycelium, hemp, recyclable brass, concrete.
