MushLume Lighting Earth Tones Color Launch + Open Studio @ NYCxDESIGN Festival
MushLume Lighting, an award-winning, biofabricated lighting collection grown using mushroom mycelium is opening its doors during the 2023 NYCxDESIGN Festival! Join us for our open studio May 19-25 at the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus, Brooklyn. We will be showcasing our newly launched color lighting line– an earthy palette of non-toxic, naturally pigmented, mineral-based treated lampshades that are grown, not manufactured!
The lampshades are grown utilizing sustainably-sourced hemp that is combined with mycelium, a rapidly renewable living organism. In just a few days, the mycelium grows, cultivating a thick network of hyphae that binds to the hemp substrate, solidifying into a solid structure to create a stable and all natural lampshade.
Staying true to our ethos of only using natural, non-toxic materials that can safely biodegrade at the end of their life, we searched for years for the best methods to bring color to the MushLume Lighting Collection. We explored natural dyes, paints, mineral stains and sealants and after much R&D, we bring to you an authentic color palette of lime wash treatments for the exterior of our lampshades.
Come see them for yourself!
