Part of our Terrace collection, the MushLume Terrace Expand Out Ceiling Mount is a low-profile flush-mounted ceiling fixture handcrafted from carbon-sequestering hemp and living mushroom mycelium — grown, not manufactured. Its shallow terraces project light outward across the ceiling plane rather than down in a narrow cone, filling a room with soft ambient glow. Hanging just 7.75 inches below the ceiling, it's well suited to rooms with limited ceiling height, corridors, and entryways where a suspended pendant isn't practical. Each shade is hand-formed in our Brooklyn studio, so no two are exactly alike; finished diameter varies between 15.5 and 18 inches. A Tala Dim-to-Warm LED sphere bulb, sized to fit the fixture, is included, and the plug-in version mounts with included ceiling anchors — no electrician required.

  • Primary substrate: Hemp hurd (industrial hemp) — approx. 75% of shade mass

  • Binder: Proprietary mycelium strain, grown in-studio — approx. 25% of shade mass

  • Free of: Formaldehyde, VOCs, halogenated flame retardants, plasticizers, PFAS, isocyanates

  • End of life: Fully biodegradable, rated home compostable

  • Carbon impact: Hemp substrate sequesters carbon into the soil before fabrication

 

Care Instructions

  • Dust gently with a soft brush or duster

  • Do not use liquids or cleaning sprays on the shade

  • Keep in dry, climate-controlled indoor environments

  • For kitchen or bathroom use, choose a painted finish to protect against moisture and grease

  • Natural mycelium shades will gradually take on a warmer, golden patina over time — this is expected and not a defect
